How to Read a SANY Excavator Nameplate

A SANY excavator nameplate identifies the machine, not the individual spare part. For parts work, the two most important fields are the complete model designation and the machine serial or production number. Photograph the whole plate, preserve every suffix and separator, and pair it with the label on the old part.

Plate layout and location vary by model, production period and market. Use the operator or service documentation for your exact machine instead of relying on one universal location described online.

What the main fields mean

The wording can differ between plates, but these are the fields that matter to a parts supplier.

Plate fieldHow to read itWhy it matters for parts
Model / Product model

Copy the complete code, including letters after the number.

Selects the machine family and market configuration to investigate.

Serial No. / Production No. / PIN

Copy every character in order; do not shorten it.

Separates production ranges and revisions within one model.

Date of manufacture

Record the full printed month/year or date.

Useful supporting evidence when a serial break or update is involved.

Manufacturer

Capture the complete legal manufacturer line and plant wording.

Helps distinguish the machine plate from a component or importer label.

Weight, power or other rated data

Keep it in the photo even when it is not needed for the first search.

Can help resolve a variant, but it does not replace the serial number.

SANY's Service Cloud instructions explicitly use the serial number on the machine nameplate to bind and validate a machine. That is a useful reminder: the serial is an identity field, not optional background information.

Read the model code exactly as printed

Do not remove suffixes because a sales listing uses a shorter name. SANY's own published product ranges distinguish variants such as SY215C LC, while other markets publish SY215C. A suffix can indicate a chassis, configuration, emissions package or market-specific build. Its exact engineering meaning must come from documentation for that machine; for ordering, the safe rule is simply to preserve it.

Our current model hubs include SY35U, SY50U, SY60C, SY75C, SY135C, SY155U, SY215C and SY365C. A matching hub confirms that the model code was recognized; it does not confirm every part used across that model's complete production history.

Machine plate, engine plate and part label are different evidence

One photograph rarely answers everything. Separate these identities:

  • Machine nameplate: identifies the excavator and production record.
  • Engine data plate: identifies the engine family, specification and its own serial. Use it for engine filters, sensors, injectors and related components.
  • Pump, motor or valve plate: identifies the hydraulic component maker and unit code.
  • Controller or monitor label: identifies hardware and sometimes a revision or software-related code.
  • Old-part label or stamping: supplies the number most directly connected to the item being replaced.

Sending only an engine plate for a cab monitor, or only the machine plate for a filter element, leaves the decisive part identity missing.

How to photograph a nameplate so it can be read

Take three photographs

  1. Location photo: step back far enough to show where the plate is mounted.
  2. Full-plate photo: hold the camera square to the plate and include all four edges.
  3. Detail photo: move closer for the model and serial fields without cutting off the label headings.

Use indirect daylight or a lamp from the side. A flash aimed straight at a metal plate often turns engraved characters into white glare. If corrosion or paint obscures the plate, photograph the original condition before gentle cleaning. Do not sand, grind or restamp an identification plate.

Check the image before leaving the machine

Zoom in and verify every character. The common failures are:

  • 0 read as O;
  • 1 read as I or 7;
  • 5 read as S;
  • a suffix cropped from the right edge;
  • the first or last serial character lost under a rivet shadow;
  • glare passing through the entire serial line;
  • an image compressed by a messaging app before the original is saved.

Keep the original-resolution image. If you type the number into a message, send the photo too so the transcription can be checked.

Why the serial number changes a parts answer

Manufacturers update machines during a model's life. A component can change at a production break without changing the large model decal on the counterweight. The difference may be visible—another connector, flange or filter dimension—or it may be inside a controller, valve or seal set.

Our published catalogue shows the practical problem:

Those relationships are useful search leads, not permission to install by model name alone. The plate, old part and physical interfaces still have to agree.

A nameplate checklist for a quote

Before opening the quote guide, collect:

  • complete model code and every suffix;
  • full machine serial or production number;
  • manufacture date shown on the plate;
  • machine market or current country;
  • full nameplate photo plus its mounting-location photo;
  • old-part number and photographs;
  • component plate when the part belongs to an engine, pump, motor, valve or controller;
  • requested quantity and destination.

If the plate is missing or unreadable, do not invent a serial from a registration document or another machine. Send the machine history, bill-of-sale identity if available, component plates and old-part evidence, and say clearly that the main plate cannot be read.

Turn the plate into a part search

Use the model code and old-part number in the part-number lookup. Read How to Find a SANY Part Number if you are unsure which string on the old component to search. For a manual check, send the original nameplate and part photos through WhatsApp .

Sources and scope

Plate fields and locations are model-specific. This article is an identification workflow, not a substitute for the operator, service or parts manual for the machine.
